The Fab Faux Cover “Abbey Road” Side 2 Live In The Studio
This is a pretty ambitious undertaking by the The Fab Faux. And it’s nice to see a live performance in this format!
Here’s the bio of the Fab Faux from their web site:
[wpp keyword="recording studio" limit_page="2"]The Fab Faux are a labor of love that was born in 1998 when neighbors Jimmy Vivino, Music Director/Guitarist for The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and long time music partner of Levon Helm, John Sebastian, Laura Nyro and Max Weinberg (to name a few), and Will Lee (who’s played with all 4 Beatles), bassist for Paul Shaffer’s CBS Orchestra on the Late Show With David Letterman kicked around the idea during an elevator ride in their NYC building.
Rounding out the line-up are lead-singing drummer/producer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Patti Smith, Ray Davies, etc.), guitarist Frank Agnello (Marshall Crenshaw, Phoebe Snow, etc.) and ace keyboardist/guitarist Jack Petruzzelli (Rufus Wainwright, Patti Smith, Joan Osborne Band, etc.). All five principals contribute vocals, making the Faux’s soaring harmonies as resonant as their multi-instrumental chops, which are further enhanced by the four-piece Hogshead Horns (with Blues Brothers, Blood, Sweat & Tears and SNL band alums) and Creme Tangerine Strings.

Man, I want to do this!
What’s the vocal mic Rich Pagano’s using?
It looks like it might be a Shure Beta 56A – http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/beta/beta-56a-instrument-microphone

Hello KnuKnut Arne Øye from Normway!
I know they perform just about everything by the Beatles, but I don’t know of another session like this one.
I like how in the first few minutes, it takes four guys to cover what Paul McCartney did by himself on the original. A very nice overall achievement (and I’ve been playing Beatles covers, sometimes for a living, for over 20 years).
There’s a guy here in Vancouver named Tim Brecht who’s been at it even longer, and he does an amazing one-man show (with a lot of synths and sequencers). Even as far back as 1986, he was performing this same whole side of Abbey Road (including “Her Majesty”) by himself, as a continuous set in his live shows. It’s something to see.
My reprise of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ with double string quartet backing.
