You Might Be A Production Veteran If…

old tape machine You Might Be A Production Veteran If...You might be a production veteran if you’ve ever heard or uttered any of the following…

  • Hey, I’m sending you a 5″ Reel at 15ips.
  • I sent the reel FED-EX last night. Did you get it?
  • Hey, who moved the splicing block and where the heck is my razor blade I had yesterday?
  • My half-inch reel is full and I cant get another one until Monday morning.
  • My reverb unit went out so I’m feeding a little slap back into the signal for an echo effect by opening the pot to the recorder a little during record mode…hey not to much much muchhhhhh
  • I dubbed the spot but forgot to bulk erase the cart, so that’s why there are two spots on the same cart that ran this morning.
  • I accidently erased the cart. Do you know where the reel is that this spot came in on?
  • I will have to do that for you later becasue my DBX compressor is on the blink!
  • Wow! I need one of those new Ensoniq keyboard samplers so I can make your drops stutter like…JA JA JA Jammin!
  • Hey, I sent you a copy to listen to on cassette!
  • This spot sounds like it has been dubbed too many times. All the top end is gone from the tape.
  • Can you send me another reel? My Scully tape machine snapped when I hit stop while it was rewinding.
  • Can you send the spot on a reel with 1.5 mil Ampex tape with the black backing?
  • What am I doing with a coat hanger and your panty hose? I’m making a pop filter for the mic!
  • What? The splice broke?! Crap! Not I have to produce it again. Where’s the grease pencil?
  • Oh, the client liked the spot but they want to change the phone number? Okay, give me a couple of hours in the studio and I will cut it out and splice in the new one.
  • Wow…we’re going digital! We have the New Roland DM-80. It has a full 30 mins of record time with 8 tracks of editing!
  • Wow! We just got a DAT machine to store all our spots on!
  • The Hafler amp has gone out and it blew the woofers out of the JBL 4410s here in the studio. So, I’m having to mix in my Koss/Radio Shack headphones.
  • Answer Phone: “Hello? What? It just stopped? Well, I bet the splce broke on the tape! Okay, okay…I’ll go to the station and change the reel on the Sunday Public Service program. Oh, I know it’s 4 AM!”
