I dunno, Al, to my ear the Germans have EV beat on this one. However, I wish the RE 27 had been used because I believe it to be "hotter" that the RE 20, in some respects.

Let's have some more shootouts including the SM 7B. These shootouts are sooo cool!

It all depends on your own ear, folks. Beauty is in the "ear" of the beholder, so to speak.

To me, the second mic, the U 87, is a little hotter on the upper end, but the Audio-Technica could be made to sound the same with just a tiny bit of EQ. Certainly not two grand's difference.

I love your Mic shoot-outs, Big Al. Keep up the good work.

You can definitely use the Impact Twin with Garageband (or any Mac audio software). I use it with Logic Pro and it works great. The Impact Twin comes with a software interface called TC Near Control Panel. You can keep it open (as another program) while you're in Garageband to change settings, though some settings are adjustable from the front panel of the Impact Twin. Good luck with your purchase. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Glad you're enjoying yours. I've been blown away at how pristine even a basic mic sounds on acoustic guitars. The onboard compression and EQ are fantastic.

Can't offer anything on MOTU interfaces, but it blows away:

1. Old Focusrite Saffire
2. Line 6 Pod GX
3. Standard Mac audio interface

I will add that Focusrite also replaced my Saffire (even after the warranty period), but I was never happy after the phantom power failed and was basically just waiting for it to happen again.
