Spectrasonics is one of a few really top tier virtual instrument developers working today. I think I can easily say they are my personal favorite.

Now they’ve launched a new video project showcasing some fantastic artists performing and creating new music tracks with their smokin’ virtual instruments Omnisphere, Trilian and Stylus RMX.

Here are two videos of the first in the series showcasing Chris Vrenna. The first video is the performance and the second one is the behind the scenes footage.

Eric Persing Demos Spectrasonics’ Latest Updates To Trillian And Omnisphere

One thing guaranteed to raise a crowd at a music trade show is a demo by my favorite developer, Eric Persing. This is a video captured by Sonic State at Messe 10. This is a showing of the latest version 1.3 updates to Trilian and Omnisphere.

Reading over the press release, it’s easy to skip over phrases such as…

‘New “Sustain2″ mode allows for much more realistic Rock-style bass playing in Trilian and interesting performance possibilities in Omnisphere.’

You might think… ‘sounds cool, I guess’… but when you actually see them demonstrated by Eric, you realize just how very cool and very powerful a feature that little phrase alludes to.

When Eric demonstrated the new Groove Lock feature and dropped a MIDI performance onto a filter envelope, the crowd actually cheered! (Though you won’t hear that on the soundtrack, as Sonic State had a direct feed from the mixer.)

Oh yeah, all the cool things you’re about to see are FREEeeee to existing registered users!

Diego Stocco – Professional Bass Hacker

Diego Stocco – you may or may not have heard that name, but there’s a good chance you still know who he is.

He is one of the prominent sound design geniuses that created so many of the cool sounds available in Omnisphere, the ultra cool virtual synth from Spectrasonics.

Not only does he do creative sampling, he builds (or destroys) custom instruments to aid in his sound design. One of his most famous sounds in Omnisphere is the Burning Piano. That’s right, he set an upright piano on fire just so he could sample the sound of it. My hero!

Now he’s at it again hacking up an acoustic bass, as well as several other stringed instruments. He calls this new instrument the Experibass. Check out this very creative guy at work…

Here are Diego’s comments on this project…

Few weeks ago I visited a luthier looking for instruments parts, I had an idea in mind for an instrument I wanted to build. My curiosity was to hear the sound of violin, viola and cello strings amplified through the body of a double bass. I came up with a quadruple-neck experimental “something” that I thought to call Experibass.

To play it I used cello and double bass bows, a little device I built with fishing line and hose clamps, a paintbrush, a fork, spoons, a kick drum pedal and a drum stick. I hope you’ll like it!

Thanks to luthier John Wu for providing me the parts, even though I warned him that I was probably going to create a “monster” : )
